This years 2016 Model United Nations conference in Oldenburg ‘OLMUN’ was a great success.
As in the past, a group of students from the Internationalen Gesamtschule Heidelberg were in attendance. This year as the Ambassadors of Canada.
Between the annual barbecue, our dinner at a fancy restaurant by the river and the awesome party hosted by the OLMUN organisers there was no lack of fun. But of course we weren’t only there to have fun, we were part of interesting debates in five separate committees. In these committees we represented our country on important questions, conscripted resolutions and debated amendments to these. All five delegates and our MUN Director looked dashing in the unusually fancy clothes that are required at these conferences.
In the special committee, debating the question of ‘ensuring freedom of speech in post conflict zones’ one of our delegates was even main submitter to the resolution that was passed by 122 countries. Another delegate was also able to be part of a newly formed committee ‘the historical security council’.
All in all we made many new experiences and can only recommend Model United Nations for all students to come. We improved our English skills and our professional business skills as well. We had a lot of fun representing a country and enjoyed the feeling of having a voice in conflicts concerning the whole world.
We would also like to thank the ‘Freundeskreis’ for financially supporting our MUN trip.
